About

So who is this Jimmy character?

He’s me! And I’m a YouTuber, researcher, writer, and actor. I was born in Bangor, north Wales, and studied archaeology at the universities of Liverpool and York. I’ve worked as a journalist, professional actor, archaeologist, and museum educator. When I’m not working on videos or making historical clothes, I’m usually writing stand-up comedy or gardening.

Why the name? Well, it’s pretty simple really. I’m Welsh, and I’ve done Viking-age living history as my main hobby for the last 15 years. It takes me all over the UK (and recently Norway!) and is great fun! It became the main subject of my YouTube channel, which is all about history, education, culture, language, and dispelling myths (like horned helmets and furry leg warmers outside the bedroom).

I wish it were more romantic, but I started the YouTube channel because I was bored during the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020. I needed something to fill the gap that was left by not going to reenactments, and making videos about history filled it nicely. It rapidly became a major hobby, then a part-time job, and now it pays my rent thanks to my generous sponsors, ko-fi donors, and patrons!

It’s led to work as an on-air expert, podcast guest, and full-on TV presenter! So if you happen to be the Director General of the BBC and want more of this, you know where to find me!
